Founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers, National Engineers Week is celebrated annually by thousands of engineers, engineering students, teachers, and leaders in government and business. In 1990, the National Engineers Week consortium expanded its scope and now includes more than 100 engineering, scientific, and education societies, and major corporations dedicated to increasing public awareness and appreciation of technology and the engineering profession. The engineers and professional support staff at GSFC have exhibited a commitment to excellence as demonstrated in the successes of the Engineers Week and HST "Goes To School " programs. Considering both programs, an estimated 170 GSFC staff participated in over 350 presentations that were viewed by over 15,000 students. Overall, an average of 9,000 students have participated in Engineers Week visitations by GSFC staff within the last 2 years.
What have some of our GSFC engineers said about the program? "By all means. I look forward to other presentations." "Thank you for the opportunity to make these presentations. I feel inspired in my profession..... by my teachers from 5th grade and high school who spoke of the marvels of science and technology. I want to inspire some awe and marvel of science into these young minds if at all possible..."
