Letter to the Principal

Dear Principal:

The NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) would like to invite you and your students to recognize National Engineers Week by registering to have a GSFC engineer or technician speak at your school.  National Engineers Week is celebrated during the week of February 18-23, 2008. This is an annual event intended to raise public awareness and appreciation for engineers and their work. More than 3 million engineers, teachers, and students participate through a variety of activities nationwide.

As part of National Engineers Week, engineers and other GSFC staff visit classrooms to share the story of their careers with students.  They explain how engineers and technicians at Goddard are helping to advance the Vision for Space Exploration.  Their talks will help students see connections between math, science, and engineering and the world around them.  In keeping with the mission of National Engineers Week and NASA’s commitment to education, our GSFC staff members are preparing to visit registered schools within the Baltimore, Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

To become a registered school complete the registration form (education.gsfc.nasa.gov/eweek). We will make every effort to match your request with a volunteer speaker.  Registration opens February 18, 2008. Speaker visits will be available until the end of the spring term.

We look forward to working with you to inspire students during and following National Engineering Week.

Sincerely,
Dr. Robert Gabrys
Deputy Chief, Education Officer
