Abstract:
This investigation will attempt to show the relationship between
increased solar winds from sunspot and coronal mass ejections activity as we head towards solar maximum, and its effect on
the intensity of aurora activity. Students will be comparing auroral
images from satellites to graphs of solar activity to find a correlation
and apply their analysis to predicting auroral activity.
Outcome:
- Outcome 1 -- identify layers of the Earths atmosphere
- Outcome 2 -- analyze patterns of auroras
- Outcome 3 -- relate solar wind patterns to auroral activity
- Outcome 4 -- apply algebraic equations to compute distances
- Outcome 5 -- predict auroral activity based on solar wind data
