Schools, classes, and students may want to become involved in
some depth with the research unfolding at the Iturralde Structure.
This could take several forms
Educational Requirements
Active Participants will be communicating directly with the expedition team. Schools
wishing actively participate must commit to completing several
prerequisite activities, as well as daily interaction with the
NASA team in order to gain basic understanding and follow the
daily science, data collection, and receive a soil sample from
the site.
Application is made by sending a letter identifying that you have
completed the requirements below, send to:

1. Complete the "Pre-Mission Activities"; Remote Sensing, Soil Testing, Impact Craters, & Biodiversity.
It is important to be very familiar with "Remote Sensing", this
explains the concepts behind the mission. In the process of the
mission or after the mission complete "Soil Testing". Other links
are recommended but not required.
2. Foreign Language has encorporated scientific vocabulary and
concepts specific to the expedition so that students will be able
to interact with Bolivian scientists on a basic level (ie. "these
are rare trees...", "this is a rainforest...", "the climate here
is..., etc.), or advanced level (ie. "The rich biodiversity here
is unique to the world because.....").
3.Observers include schools wishing only to follow the action at their own
pace. They may watch what goes on and learn from the expedition
team as well as complete the activities on the Iturralde home
page they wish. No direct communication with the team will occur
and schools will not receive a soil sample from the site.
Technical Requirements for Participation and Observation:
1. Reliable internet link. VERY IMPORTANT
Firewalls will seriously hamper sending and receiving transmissions.
Additionally, many schools operate off a central server which
will also slow the transmission considerably.
To remade this, use a personal account's settings (ie., Erols,
AOL, etc.) and use a school's phone line for access to your personal
account. Thereby by passing large numbers of schools going through
the same server.
