This site has been designed to help you prepare for your experience at Lake Placid, NY. Here you will find pre-HOW activities - a set of four activities for you to complete in advance of your upcoming HOW participation.
Successful completion of each of the four activities and submission of your products fulfill the Pre-HOW portion of the AVED 5720 course credit requirement offered through Oklahoma State University for the History of Winter program. You will be asked to record observations and responses, as well as create a product for each activity, which you will submit along with a data collection assignment to attain credit for the Pre-HOW component.
The online portion of each of the four activities can be completed within approximately thirty minutes. The first activity has a long-term offline assignment that needs to be completed and brought to Lake Placid. Each activity has accompanying step-by-step text to guide you. The text document can be downloaded and printed out if you prefer to have it in hand while you work. When you are ready to begin the Pre-HOW activities, please be sure that you are prepared to record your work, whether in a document file or with pen and paper, and that your computer has the latest versions of Flash, Windows Media, and Java downloaded. Use the links at the right to access and download these applications.
